TTE Announces its Instec “ML61” EMI/RFI Filter Series Attains MIL-PRF-28861 for Defense Applications

Lowpass, Feed-Through, C-Circuit Filters Suppress Broadband Radio Frequency Interference

Gowanda, NY (USA) – TTE Filters, a designer and manufacturer of RF and microwave filters for high performance applications announces that its Instec Filters brand ML61 EMI/RFI filters are now qualified to the US Department of Defense DLA Land and Maritime’s MIL-PRF-28861 military standard. This series will be featured at the 2021 International Microwave Symposium in Atlanta on June 8-9, booth #1129.

This series can now be used in military electronic systems to suppress and reduce broadband radio frequency interference which would otherwise compromise system performance. These high performance systems are utilized in military communication devices, oscillators, attenuators and low noise amplifiers.  

The electrical characteristic ranges of these lowpass, feed-through, C-circuit, solder-in ML61 filters include Rated Voltage from 50Vdc to 200Vdc, Capacitance from 10pF to 15,000pF and Minimum Insertion Loss from 3dB to 60dB. The Operating Temperature is -55°C to +125°C. Refer to the table below for part-specific details.

The parts in this ML61 series are hermetically glass sealed at one end and epoxied at the other end, with the location of the glass seal dependent on the particular configuration. In conformance with the MilSpec, the company can provide these filters in Configuration A (ML610) or Configuration B (ML611). Please refer to the MIL-PRF-28861/12H standard for more information. The main body of each part in this series measures 0.128in. (3.25mm) in diameter while the main body height is 0.110in. (2.79mm) and the overall tip-to-tip length is 0.625in. (15.88mm). The MilSpec qualification – specifically MIL-PRF-28861/12H Class B – required rigorous electrical, thermal and mechanical testing including solderability, moisture resistance, solvent resistance, corrosion resistance, physical shock, thermal shock, vibration and life testing of this series. Testing was performed at the in-house environmental testing lab of sister company, Gowanda Electronics. This lab is Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime approved (in support of internal product qualifications).

TTE Filters Introduces Two New Series for High Frequency Testing Applications

LC17 & HC17 Filters Offer ‘Brick Wall’ Performance to 7GHz for Semiconductor and IC Testing
Gowanda, NY (USA) – TTE Filters, a US-based manufacturer of high-reliability RF filters and microwave filters for demanding communication and signal processing applications, introduces two new filter series for high frequency testing applications. The new filters – LC17 and HC17 – provide brick wall characteristics and performance to 7GHz making them ideal for Audio-Digital-Conversion and Digital-Audio-Conversion (ADC/DAC) test set ups. Such signal conditioning testing is especially important for semiconductor chips and integrated circuits where testing frequencies continue to trend higher and higher (now in the GHz range). Relevant markets include commercial, industrial, medical, military/defense and test & measurement.

TTE’s new filters leverage the steep roll-off response of Chebyshev topology in 17th order lowpass (LC) and highpass (HC) designs to address the testing industry’s need for filters that can operate at GHz frequencies – much higher than traditional brick wall anti-aliasing elliptical function filters which are typically limited to less than 500MHz. These new LC17 and HC17 filters, while not true brick wall filters, are designed in a way that their steep roll-offs closely resemble brick wall filters. Moreover, since TTE’s new filters are based on Chebyshev topology they have a slight ripple in the passband and no ripple in the stopband, unlike elliptical designs which have ripple in both the passband and stopband. Thus TTE’s filters provide desirable stopband performance at high frequency with limited passband ripple.

The passband to stopband ratio for the LC17 filter is -50dBc at 1.19 fo and -60dBc at 1.27 fo. That ratio for the HC17 filter is -50dBc at 0.84 fo and -60dBc at 0.78 fo. The frequency range for both filters is 1MHz to 7GHz. Standard or custom cases are available. The table below provides an overview of both series.

Please note that TTE offers low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) versions of its filters – including the LC17T and HC17T – to improve ADC/DAC testing by reducing the harmonics inherently present in signal generators. To request a filter with low THD please specify the “T” option when ordering. When specified, the “T” option refers to a filter designed for optimum THD: -80dBc minimum, -96dBc typical and greater than -115dBc in some instances.
